Boxers or briefs? Ginger or Mary Ann? To those timeless questions, we now add a third: Would you, as New England's Bill Belichick did, go for it on fourth and two FROM YOUR OWN 28-YARD LINE with just over two minutes to go while holding a six-point lead, risking setting Peyton Manning up on your front porch with a chance to win the game?
The sports talk gabbers have spent the past three days debating the question when in fact the answer is simple: NOOOOOO! But Belichek did it. The result: Indianapolis 35, New England 34, and a nation of debaters. Well, at least we have something to talk about other than health-care reform.
One of those things is the big winner in Week 10 of the Power Points Football Contest. In a week riddled with upsets, scores were uncommonly low, with only a few exceptions. The largest of these was Ed Niber, of Pittsburgh, who tallied 130 of the possible 136 points, thus claiming grand prize honors and the accompanying weekly cash award of $1,000.
He entered the contest through the Tribune-Review newspaper in Pittsburgh.
The Tribune's local winner was Grand Haven's Brenda DeJonge, who earned 107 points.
