GRAND HAVEN TOWNSHIP A West Olive woman was seriously hurt in a two-car crash Friday morning near Grand Haven High School.
Police said Katherine Augustyn, 53, was driving her 2002 Honda Accord east on Ferris Street and crossing U.S. 31 when her car was struck by a pickup truck heading north on the highway at around 9:15 a.m.
Police said Bradley Plooster, 34, of Grand Haven Township failed to stop at the red light at Ferris Street and his 2004 Dodge pickup truck hit the Accord broadside. Plooster was not hurt in the crash, Sgt. Jon Wolffis of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department said.
Grand Haven Township Fire/Rescue personnel extricated Augustyn from her smashed car and she was initially taken to North Ottawa Community Hospital. Wolffis said she was later transported to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids with multiple injuries.
Neither vehicle had any other passengers, and both Augustyn and Plooster were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
Wolffis said alcohol was not a factor in the crash, but it remains under investigation by the Sheriff's Department.
