SL cancels hoops due to winter storm

The winter storm that dumped several inches of snow across West Michigan last night forced the cancellation of one area sporting event, but several others will go on as scheduled.
Spring Lake Public Schools were closed today, and as a result, the Lakers' home basketball game against Newaygo has been postponed. No make-up date has been announced.
Grand Haven Public Schools were also closed, but according to athletic director Jack Provencal, the school's two scheduled events a basketball and a hockey game will still be held.
Coach Katie Kowalczyk-Fulmer's varsity girls basketball team is heading up to Traverse City for a two-day tournament, which begins with tonight's showdown against Traverse City Central.
In addition, the Bucs' varsity hockey team is heading to Lansing to tangle with Holt.
Both Fruitport and Western Michigan Christian's girls basketball games will go on as scheduled. Fruitport hosts Fremont, while WMC travels to Godwin Heights.
