Grand Haven closed out its regular season last Thursday with a 11-7 victory against Grand Rapids Northview.
The Bucs (12-7) were sluggish according to coach Mark Kramer, but a strong third period led to the victory. Grand Haven led by a tight 4-2 margin at half against the Wildcats, but scored five goals in the third to take advantage.
Northview played with a lot of emotion because of its senior night and the Bucs struggled at times offensively.
"We may have taken them for granted since we bat them handily before," Kramer said, referring to a 21-8 Bucs' victory in the first meeting.
Norview scored three unanswered goals to start the fourth to close to within two at 9-7, but the Bucs' defense closed strong and the offense scored two more goals to close out the contest.
Mike Matych led Grand Haven with four goals, followed by Riley Hall's three.
In earlier games, Grand Haven defeated Holland Christian 14-7 on Tuesday, May 13 and topped Zeeland 14-4 on Friday, May 9.
Grand Haven opens playoff action Friday against Rockford (8-9). The contest begins at 7 p.m. at East Rockford Middle School.
