Latest Snap Fitness location opens in GH Township

GRAND HAVEN TOWNSHIP — A new location for Snap Fitness, a 24-hour-a-day fitness club, opened Monday at 13040 U.S. 31 in Grand Haven Township.

"I had a liver transplant in 2005, and ever since I have been really motivated to stay healthy and fit," said Chuck Watson, owner of the new Grand Haven Township workout facility and a personal trainer. "I changed my career path and opened a Snap Fitness in Grand Haven because I wanted to do something I loved, and I wanted to help out the community."

Snap Fitness provides members with a complete cardio workout center — including treadmills, stair climbers, exercise bikes, elliptical machines and free weights — that are available every day of the year at any hour with a secure key-card system and video surveillance monitoring. The club key will work at any Snap Fitness location in the United States.

Personal trainers are available during select hours.

Members can pay month by month, with no contracts to sign, and they can "freeze" — or put on hold — their membership at any time. Monthly fees start at $34.95 and Snap Fitness offers a 30-day risk-free trial.

A fitness rewards program is available for members, which allows them to earn points for staying active and referring other members to Snap Fitness.

There are also Snap Fitness locations in Spring Lake at 723 E. Savidge, suite F; and in Norton Shores at 950 W. Norton Ave.

There were more than 1,200 locations across the country last year, less than four years after the Minnesota-based company began franchising.

The business thrives on what its owners call a nonthreatening environment.

"There are people of all different types, ages and background who work out with one common goal — to stay fit and healthy," said Jennifer Craig, owner of the Norton Shores location.

The Grand Haven Township location has modern facilities that offer the use of flat-screen televisions and a tanning booth for its members. The staff is available Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m., Fridays from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

"The turnout so far has been good," Watson said. "We are really excited to have a center open in Grand Haven. It is a great location."
