Muskegon Catholic Central's varsity hockey squad won a late game against Lowell/Caledonia Friday night in Kentwood, but couldn't make it two in a row on Saturday as the Crusaders stumbled against Cheboygan.
On Friday, the Crusaders came out strong, scoring four goals in the opening period. Josh Corgan got things started, scoring a power play goal with an assist from Connor Seymour. Ty Jaenicke, Reid Munroe and Scott Hall added goals to make it 4-0.
Corgan scored again early in the second period to make it 5-0 before Lowell/Caledonia's Dan Tome snuck a shot past MCC goalie Thomas Marine.
Marine finished with 12 saves for the win while Lowell/Caledonia goalie Nathan Propst faced 49 shots, stopping 44.
On Saturday, the Crusaders' tired legs cost them against a rugged Cheboygan squad, which held MCC without a goal.
BUCS WIN AGAIN
Grand Haven improved to 9-1 overall with a 7-1 victory over Kalamazoo United to win the Mike Viglione Invitational Tournament at Georgetown Ice Arena.
The Buccaneers held a 32-10 advantage in shots on goal.
Jake Kramer scored twice for Grand Haven. Conor Fredricks, Zach Curry, Will Mulligan, Eric Bogdans and Josh Kooi each added single goals for the Bucs, while Thomas Stankewicz scored for Kalamazoo United.
Zach Kooi, Dylan Kern and T.J. Roth shared time in goal for Grand Haven, which returns to action for a home game on Jan. 9 against Grand Rapids West Catholic.
