Hockey roundup: VerDuin, Bucs pound Panthers

Will VerDuin scored twice to help the Grand Haven varsity hockey team register a 5-1 win over West Ottawa on Saturday.
The Buccaneers improved to 8-1 and remained in first place in the O-K Rainbow Tier II Conference and is now 16-3-1 overall.
Hunter Balangero, Ian Hibbard and Cody Horton each added single goals for the Bucs. Will Mulligan added three assists while Zach Curry, Tyler Petersen and Horton each had single assists.
Desmond Morgan scored the Panthers' lone goal.
Zach Kooi earned the win in goal for Grand Haven.
The Bucs host Reeths-Puffer on Wednesday at 8 p.m. at The Edge Ice Arena in Holland.
CRUSADERS FALL IN FINAL
Grand Rapids West Catholic scored five unanswered goals to top the Crusaders in the finals of the MCC Invitational Saturday, 5-2.
The Crusaders actually jumped out to a 2-0 lead after Connor Seymour scored late in the first period, then Nic Bectel added a goal early in the second period.
Rowan Daniels, Reid Munroe and Tom Palias each had assists for the Crusaders.
West Catholic then began the comeback early in the second period as Connor Kelbel scored to make it 2-1. It was all West Catholic from there as the Falcons scored twice more to close on the second, then added two more goals in the third.
Thomas Marine stopped 21 of the 25 shots he faced for the Crusaders while the Falcons' goalie, Peter Dykstra, was outstanding, making 20 saves on 22 shots faced.
