Grand Haven's girls varsity bowling squad was on a roll heading into Monday's O-K Red Conference showdown with Rockford.
The Buccaneers and the Rams were tied atop the league standings, and Grand Haven was coming off an impressive second-place finish at Saturday's Hudsonville Invitational.
But that momentum came to an abrupt halt on Monday as the Rams torched the Bucs, 27-3, to take control of the league race.
Rockford won all 10 Baker points as the Rams' games of 198 and 189 for a total of 387 easily topped the Bucs' games of 170-140-310.
Grand Haven tried to scramble back in the regular games, but could only muster three of the 20 available points. Mariah Olthof earned a point with her 178, as did Ashley Lacy with a 156 and Meranda Helder with a 158.
Chelsea Winkelman came up empty despite games of 202 and 181, and Helder's game of 198 also failed to earn a point.
On Saturday, the Buccaneers placed second behind Wyoming Rogers, and defeated Rockford, at the Hudsonville Invitational.
The Bucs finished with 2,374 pins in regular games and 807 Baker points for a total of 3,181. Rogers was tops with 3,327.
The top four teams went to a playoff, which consisted of two Baker games, and Rogers again came out on top with a total of 281. The Bucs were next at 277.
Grand Haven's boys settled for a 15-all tie with Rockford on Monday.
The Bucs grabbed six points from the Baker games with identical scores of 182 for a total of 364. Rockford rolled games of 194 and 169 for a total of 363.
In the regular games, Aaron Hawkins won a pair of points with his games of 203 and 182, as did Nick Laird with his efforts of 156 and 179. Nate Volk rolled the Bucs' high score with a 254, and also bowled a 205.
At Hudsonville on Saturday, Grand Haven took fifth, one spot out of the top-four playoff.
Grand Haven finished with 2,616 pins in the regular game and a 959 total in the Baker games for a total of 3,574.
WMC TEAMS FALL
Western Michigan Christian's boys bowling squad lost to Oakridge on Monday, 29-1.
The Warriors had two good Baker games but lost both of them. In the first round of regular matches, WMC received great games from Jacob Seehase (183), Noah Hartley (174), Tyler Ott (175) and Justin Baker (155), and came up short in each of those games.
Oakridge started the second game with 14 strikes in 15 frames. Baker took the only point in the last match with a 200.
Wednesday is the conference championship at Northway Lanes.
The WMC girls lost 18-12 against Ravenna 'B.' The girls won one of the Baker games and three individual matches: Ali Cavanaugh, Kim Binnendyk and Bethany Schuitema; and total pins for seven points. In the final matches, Emily Essex took the only point.
