County giving food to needy families Friday

Wed, Nov 28, 2007

The Ottawa County Community Action Agency is coordinating a food distribution to low-income families on Friday.

Residents can go to St. Patrick's Church, 920 Fulton Ave., from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to pick up canned beef stew, ground beef, egg noodles, flour mix, peanut butter, rice, tomato sauce, tuna, vegetable oil and vegetable soup.

Food can also be picked up from 1-3 p.m. at Love, INC in Hudsonville, from 10 a.m. to noon at V.F.W. Post 5598 in Coopersville and from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Holland Salvation Army in Holland.

To receive food, household incomes must be less than $13,273 for individuals, less than $17,797 for a household of two, less than $22,321 for three and less than $26,845 for four. For each family member above four, add $4,524 to find the maximum household income eligible for assistance.

The scale is higher for households containing one or more member who is 60-years-old or above, starting at $16,336 for individuals.

Eligible individuals must prove Ottawa County residency to receive the Emergency Food Assistance Program food supplies.
