POLKTON TOWNSHIP A Sparta woman suffered serious injuries in an accident Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of 68th Avenue and Leonard Road.
Police said Tamara Winters, 48, was driving west on Leonard at around 1:30 p.m. when she stopped for a red light and then proceeded to turn south onto 68th Avenue. A semitrailer truck was northbound on 68th at the time, Sgt. Steve Austin of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department said, and the truck had the green light.
The car turned in front of the truck and was struck the car in the driver's door, Austin said.
Winters was pinned inside her car after the crash, and crews from Coopersville-Polkton and Allendale fire departments worked at the scene to extricate her, Austin said. She was taken by Life Ambulance to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.
The driver of the truck, 45-year-old James Walsh of Newaygo, was not hurt in the crash, Austin said.
