SL thumps Heights in district opener

Spring Lake's varsity volleyball team had absolutely no problem advancing past Muskegon Heights in the opening round of the Class B district tournament on Monday.
The Lakers dispatched of the Tigers, 25-2, 25-7, 25-9, earning a spot in Wednesday's district tournament semifinals against Oakridge.
Taylor Keyser took control of the serve in Game 1 and reeled off 18 consecutive points, including seven aces, before being removed from the game by coach Sarah Bulthuis.
Mary Hamati picked up the slack, finishing with 13 points and five aces, along with four digs and nine assists. Rachel Kilbry, who recently returned from a knee injury and isn't a regular in the Lakers' serving rotation, added 11 points and three aces to go with her four kills and two blocks.
Lindsay Bogi provided five kills and two digs, and Elizabeth McLaughlin added three kills.
Sophia Hamati had two digs, and Jackie Wruble added a pair of blocks for Spring Lake (31-16-1).
The Lakers will take on Oakridge on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Orchard View. The earlier match features Fruitport and the host Cardinals. The winner of those two semifinal matches will meet Thursday at 5 p.m. at Orchard View.
GH DISTRICT FINAL RESCHEDULED
According to the Grand Haven High School athletic office, the Class A volleyball district tournament taking place at Grand Haven this week will conclude with the district championship game on Saturday at 10 a.m.
The championship match was originally scheduled to be played on Friday at 7 p.m., but that is the same time as the Buccaneers' playoff football contest at Rockford. In order to allow fans and athletes to attend both contests, the finals were moved to Saturday morning.
