SPRING LAKE Village Council on Monday will discuss converting its streetscape lighting to more energy-efficient bulbs at a cost of more than $50,000.
The regularly scheduled meeting is set for 7:30 p.m. at Barber School, 102 W. Exchange St.
Village Manager Ryan Cotton plans to submit a grant request in the amount of $43,924 to the Michigan Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program to help defray the total estimated cost of $53,104. If council approves, the village would replace 175-watt bulbs with 37-watt LED flxtures in 42 of its Sternberg lights.
If the grant comes through, the village would be responsible for $9,180 of the cost.
Cotton estimates the village will save about $6,500 annually with the conversion, which also would reduce carbon monoxide emissions by 46,000 pounds.
