HOLLAND TOWNSHIP A 21-year-old man was stabbed multiple times when a fight broke out around 3:45 p.m. Wednesday in the Leisure Estates mobile home park, police said.
Police said the man, who was not identified, was stabbed as many as 12 times in the chest or abdomen outside of a home near a playground area on Birch Street.
Witnesses reported hearing gunshots, but hospital officials said they found no gunshot wounds on the victim, said Lt. Mark Bennett of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department.
The man's condition was unknown Wednesday evening. He remains at Holland Hospital.
About two hours after the incident, police took a 19-year-old Holland Township man into custody. Police believe at least three other people, who had not been apprehended, were also involved in the fight. They would not say whether the suspect in custody was the person who stabbed the victim.
No weapons were discovered at the scene, Bennett said.
The suspects are all believed to be males in their 20s. Bennett said each of the suspects appeared to have fled on foot after the incident.
Police continue to investigate whether the incident is gang-related. Witnesses told them the fight may have started over a relationship, Bennett said.
