Hundreds of barrels discovered in Mich. field

Thu, Sep 4, 2008    to del.icio.us

TEXAS TOWNSHIP (AP) — Government officials are investigating the discovery in a Kalamazoo County field of about 400 barrels that might contain hazardous materials.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said it has been monitoring the area's air quality and hasn't detected anything dangerous. Ground samples have been sent to a lab for analysis.

Environmental investigators said they don't believe the 55-gallon drums pose a threat to people living near the wooded Texas Township property.

Representatives of the EPA and the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality started going over the property early last week.
