MUSKEGON The family of a Nunica boy who died from injuries in a sledding accident late last year have decided to honor the boy's memory with a blood drive on Friday to help raise awareness of the need for blood donations.
The American Red Cross Blood Drive will be held at the PPW Building, 2246 Olthoff Drive in Muskegon, from noon to 5:45 p.m.
Chance Nash, 11, was sledding at Grand Haven's Duncan Memorial Park on Dec. 31 when an accident caused blunt injuries to his abdomen, leading to internal bleeding. He died later that day.
Shannon Posniczak, a friend and co-worker of the boy's parents, is coordinating the blood drive.
"Chance used a lot of blood and everything was done to save his life," Posniczak said. "We hope that in some way we can create a sense of awareness of the need for blood that may help someone else in need."
The blood drive is open to the public and all eligible donors are invited to attend. Eligible blood donors must be at least age 17, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good general health.
No appointment is necessary. For those who would like to schedule an appointment, call 1-800-GIVELIFE or register online at www.givelife.org
