Mich. man gets life sentence in office killing

Tue, Nov 3, 2009    to del.icio.us

MUSKEGON (AP) — A 74-year-old Muskegon-area man will spend the rest of his life in prison for the office killing of a real estate agent.

Robert Johnson of Roosevelt Park received a life sentence Monday in Muskegon County Circuit Court.

He was charged with open murder following the July 2008 shooting death of 33-year-old Troy VanderStelt in the victim's Roosevelt Park office. Prosecutors described Johnson as a disgruntled former client.

Johnson pleaded guilty last month to the charge. Judge James Graves then heard evidence and testimony to decide whether Johnson was guilty of first- or second-degree murder.

Two days after the plea, the judge convicted Johnson of first-degree murder.
