Baseball roundup: Sabo pitches SL past Montague

Showing no ill effects from an arm injury that kept him out of the lineup for a few weeks, Spring Lake senior Chris Sabo threw a solid game, helping the Lakers' varsity baseball team beat Montague Thursday, 10-2.

Sabo went six innings and struck out three. He allowed four singles and didn't walk a batter. Montague's two runs ere both unearned.

Tyler Pederson pitched the final inning for Spring Lake, which is now 10-6-1.

Kevin Teays banged out a pair of hits, including a home run, the team's 10th of the season. Teays finished with three RBIs on the day.

Brooks McDonald went 2-for-4 with an RBI while Mark Rhem was 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and three runs batted in.

Pederson added an RBI single for Spring Lake, which plays against Comstock Park tonight.

JUNIOR VARSITY: The Lakers beat up on Montague Thursday, winning 7-1. Kyle Wasseberger, Nick Heller and Tony Sabo each took a turn on the mound for the Lakers, who also received solid production throughout their lineup.

ROP HELPS WMC ROMP

The Western Michigan Christian baseball team got back on the winning track on Thursday with a 12-4 victory over Freedom Baptist.

Andrew Rop pitched a complete game, allowing one earned run, striking out eight and walking two.

He also helped his own cause at the plate with two doubles, three runs scored and one RBI.

John Schuitema, Matt Becker and Zeb Boeskool also had two hits. Boeskool finished with three RBIs.
