Collette Hansen shot an even-par round of 36 as the Buccaneer girls golf team knocked off last year's league champions, the East Kentwood Falcons, 176-200.
The win was even more significant in the fact that it took place on Kentwood's home course, Crystal Springs, which will also be the site of the regional tournament later this fall.
Audrey Austin added her career-best round, a 39, while Terrin Jerovsek shot a 48. Emily Bethune and Alex Merz each shot a 53 for Grand Haven.
"I was very happy with the way we played," said coach Roger Glass. "Having two scores in the 30's is fantastic at the course we're going to play for regionals."
LAKERS STRUGGLE
Spring Lake's junior varsity golf team couldn't keep pace with Reeths-Puffer Wednesday, falling to the Rockets, 198-234.
Lauren Newhouse shot a 54 and Austa Jensen carded a 56 for the Lakers. Emily Roberge added a 60, Alex Ditrapani had a 64, and Addison Ross shot a 65 for Spring Lake.
"So far I've played 20 of my girls in varsity matches," said coach George Bitner. "Most of these other schools don't have JV teams, so if I'm going to develop a program with these younger kids, I have to play them somewhere."
