So who knew?
Who even imagined that the Cleveland Browns and the Detroit Lions, the two most anemic offenses -- with apologies to the Oakland Raiders -- in the NFL, would provide the biggest shootout and most exciting game yet in the 2009 season?
The two teams, with a combined two victories going into Week 11, tallied a total of 75 points in their offensive explosion. One elderly lady, known well to Your Commissioner, actually speculated to a prominent local bookie that the two teams would not total even 38 points. That benchmark was reached early in the second quarter.
Speaking of unexpected point totals, one contestant in Week 11 of the Power Points Football Contest actually tallied a perfect score of 136 points despite two of the biggest upsets of the season, Oakland's win over Cincinnati and Kansas City's victory over mighty Pittsburgh. Such bizarre happenings should be reserved for Halloween, not Thanksgiving. But it's true: Dave Pugsley, of Bluffton, OH, hit that perfect score and will collect the weekly grand prize of $1,000.
He entered the contest through the Lima News in Lima, OH.
The top local entry submitted to the Grand Haven Tribune was Roger Barger. The Grand Haven resident scored 118 points.
