North Shore Marina, 18275 Berwyck St., could be adding a 7,500-square-foot boat storage building as soon as this summer.
The city's planning commissioners on Tuesday unanimously approved a final site plan for the 35-foot-high building, which will go up on the northeast corner of the marina's property along the north shore of the Grand River.
The metal storage building will be placed 30 feet from the marina's property line with the Kitchel-Lindquist Dune Preserve. A fence, wall or berm will need to be built on the property's north side for screening any outdoor storage of boats and trailers.
Kitchel-Lindquist Dune Preserve Board member Jan Beukema told commissioners that the board does not have a problem with the building, but they preferred that nothing would be stored outside of it facing the dune preserve.
The new building will be located in a designated sensitive area because of the critical dune, but marina owner Chris Lisowicz said he already has approval from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality.
