Grand Haven's water polo squad had a 6-4 lead over visiting Zeeland Thursday with four minutes remaining at the Grand Haven Aquatic Center, but the Bucs couldn't hold onto the advantage, falling to the Chix, 8-6.
"Our defense froze up and we got a little tight," Grand Haven coach Adam Briggs said. "That's something we have to work on because it's been a reoccurring theme this season."
The Bucs had a 2-1 lead after one period, but trailed at the half, 4-2.
Grand Haven came out inspired, and scored four unanswered goals in the third period, but couldn't keep the momentum going the rest of the way.
Noah Veach and Sam Schulze led the Bucs with three goals apiece, while Nate Koella made 13 saves in goal.
The Bucs (13-18) will battle in the Jenison Invitational next, which will begin today and wrap up on Saturday.
