NAPOLEON TOWNSHIP (AP) Don Ramirez collects military paraphernalia and displays it at local festivals.
So when the Jackson County man recently was given a bag of old military items by a Korean War veteran, he didn't think much of it. He later looked through the stuff and came across something troubling a grenade that by the looks of it might have been live.
Ramirez said he dialed 911 right away.
Napoleon Township police came to his home, then called the State Police bomb squad in Lansing. Squad members confirmed the grenade was real and live, and took it to a gravel pit for detonation.
Ramirez told the Jackson Citizen Patriot he's "been showing and collecting for 20 years ... and this is the first time I ever received anything like this."
