Grand Haven coach Adam Briggs can't fault his water polo squad's defensive effort on Monday, but the Bucs didn't receive enough scoring punch in their 6-2 loss to East Grand Rapids in their regular season finale.
The Bucs (7-15 overall) will face either Zeeland or Jenison in the first round of districts on Friday at Rockford High School.
Grand Haven had plenty of chances against the Pioneers, but were 0-for-6 on power play opportunities. Emily Dean and Erin Page accounted for the Bucs' two goals.
Briggs praised Page for her defensive effort as well, as she was matched up on EGR's top player and limited her to only one goal. She also recorded a team-high seven steals.
Bucs' goalie Kinsey Damaska missed the contest due to illness, but sophomore Allison Chidester filled in nicely from the junior varsity squad, making nine saves.
