Mon, Aug 18, 2008    to del.icio.us

BELVIDERE TOWNSHIP (AP) — The Montcalm County Sheriff's Department says a 19-year-old Navy recruit was swimming with friends beyond the marked area of a lake when he began struggling, then sank and drowned.

The accident happened about 4 p.m. Saturday in First Lake. It's in the Six Lakes area of Belvidere Township, about 40 miles northeast of Grand Rapids.

WZZM-TV identified the victim as Carnell Tutstone Jr. of Detroit.

Authorities said an onlooker quickly pulled Tutstone from the water. Tutstone was then rushed to Kelsey Memorial Hospital in Lakeview, where he died.

Tutstone was scheduled to report for duty within days.
