Bill Jamerson will discuss his recent novel, "Big Shoulders" which commemorates the 75th anniversary of the Civil Conservation Corps in Michigan on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Mackinaw Ballroom of the Grand Haven Community Center, 421 Columbus Ave.
The program, sponsored by the city of Grand Haven and Loutit District Library, will be a preliminary kickoff to 2008 Michigan Week.
Jamerson combines a multi-media program of songs with stories and video. He includes excerpts from his book, a video clip from his PBS film and original songs he wrote about the CCC while spotlighting the many conservation projects the CCC accomplished throughout the state.
Jamerson's 325-page book is a coming-of-age story of a teenager during The Great Depression. Drawing on the dozens of interviews he conducted over a 15-year period, his novel follows the life of a Detroit boy sent to Camp Raco in 1937.
