Blue Lake Summer Arts Festival features Verdehr Trio and camp festival band Friday and Sunday

TWIN LAKE Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, whose 1,400 acre campus is located just north of Muskegon in Manistee National Forest, continues their 2009 Summer Arts Festival with a performance by the Verdehr Trio and the Blue Lake Festival Band.
The Verdehr Trio performance will take place on Friday, July 3; and the Blue Lake Festival Band will perform on Sunday, July 5.
Both performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the William Stewart Memorial Music Shell. Admission is $5 at the door.
The Verdehr Trio, comprised of violinist Walter Verdehr, clarinetist Elsa Ludewig-Verdehr, and pianist Silvia Roederer, has performed throughout the world, including such noted concert venues as The Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, Library of Congress, Vienna's Brahmssaal, and the Sydney Opera House. Recipients of the Adventuresome Programming Award from Chamber Music America, the trio is in constant demand at such international events as Spoleto, the Prague Spring Festival, and the Grand Teton Music Festival. The Verdehr Trio is currently in residence at Michigan State University.
The Blue Lake Festival Band, under the direction of Kent Krive, is comprised of Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp faculty and staff from throughout the nation. The program will include Ballet Music from "William Tell" by Gioachino Rossini, Grainger Couplet by Percy Grainger, and the First Suite in E-flat by Gustav Holst. Mr. Krive has served as Director of Bands in numerous Michigan school systems and at Ferris State University. In addition, he served as Principal Clarinetist of Muskegon's West Shore Symphony Orchestra for 39 years.
The 2009 Blue Lake Summer Arts Festival runs through Aug. 22 with 48 events including the Grand Rapids Symphony; Ruth and Naomi, an opera by James Niblock; the Blodgett Recital Series; and International Program homecoming concerts. Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, a summer school of the arts located in Twin Lake, MI, offers fine arts education for all ages. The summer camp annually serves gifted elementary, junior high, and high school students with diverse programs in music, art, dance, and drama, while offering public performances during its Summer Arts Festival.
