Both Spring Lake and Fruitport scored 4-1 wins in their Lakes Eight Conference girls soccer tournament semifinal games, setting up a clash between the two rivals in Monday's championship game.
The Lakers, the top seed in the tournament, overwhelmed Fremont, 4-1, behind a pair of goals by Haley Smith. Annie Steinlage and Emily Clauss also scored goals for the Lakers, who are now 12-1-3 on the season.
Jenny Kalejs set up Clauss' goal while one of Smith's scores came off a punt from goalie Rachel Kilbry. Smith now has 22 goals in 16 games this spring.
"This was a very good team game. Everybody played well," said coach Jeremy Thelen. "But we need to play quicker and faster. I thought we played good. I'm waiting for great.
"I don't want to disrespect Fremont, but we weren't excited about our competition. There obviously will be some motivation when we play a rival school in Fruitport."
Fruitport beat Ludington, 4-1, as Jamie Adams scored twice for the Trojans. Hannah Saheb and Linsye Haan each added goals for Fruitport, which will play at East Grand Rapids Friday evening.
The Lakers and the Trojans will meet Monday at 6:45 p.m. at Spring Lake Middle School. Spring Lake beat Fruitport on April 28, 1-0.
JUNIOR VARSITY: Fruitport knocked off Ludington Wednesday, 1-0. Julie Larson scored for the Trojans while Brittany Stack and Erica Ryan both played well, according to coach Greg Kobylak.
