Police accuse woman of slashing her son, 1

COMMERCE TOWNSHIP (AP) — Authorities say they have arrested a Detroit-area woman in the stabbing of her 1-year-old son.

Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard said the baby was stabbed in the throat, torso and armpit with a butcher knife shortly before noon Thursday at his parents' home in Commerce Township, 25 miles northwest of Detroit. Bouchard said the baby's father stopped the attack.

The baby was undergoing surgery at University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor on Thursday night. His condition hasn't been released, but Bouchard said he's expected to survive.

The 25-year-old mother is expected to receive psychiatric treatment and face charges.
