GREEN OAK TOWNSHIP (AP) Police say a body found in a swamp may solve the mystery of what happened to a 300-pound man who disappeared more than four years ago after his car crashed a few feet away.
A state road crew found the remains Wednesday while working on a storm sewer in a deep ravine along U.S. 23 in Livingston County's Green Oak Township, 30 miles west-northwest of Detroit.
Green Oak Township Police Chief Robert Brookins told the Livingston County Daily Press & Argus the crew called 911 after spotting "a leg, blue jeans and a foot."
Police said they suspect the body is that of John Gilboe of Hamburg Township. Police found his crashed vehicle on Jan. 31, 2005. They said Gilboe, 62, disappeared after declining a passing driver's offer to call 911.
