SPRING LAKE Village Council unanimously appointed Richard "Andy" Kleppe on Monday as a replacement for Elizabeth Wheeler, who recently resigned from the village's Planning Commission.
Kleppe, of 306 Visser St., was one of three candidates who applied for the commission seat. Shelly Brower, 519 River St., and Bruce D. Campbell, 517 E. Savidge St., also submitted applications.
Kleppe is currently out of town and was not at Monday's meeting.
The seven-year village resident previously said his goals were "to give my voice, concerns, as well as my neighbors'" to commission proceedings. In his application, Kleppe said his concerns for the village are "to grow sensibly, but keep the nostalgia of the village intact."
Kleppe's term on the commission expires in August 2011.
The Village Council also unanimously appointed Brigit Lewis, current director of administration for Christ Community Church, to a three-year term on the village's Central Business District Development Authority on Monday. Lewis, a former director of the now-defunct Downtown Grand Haven Inc., said she welcomes the challenge.
"It's a creative challenge to balance residential and business needs," she said. "I would like to lend my skills to the long-term growth and development of the village."
