Taylor Keyser continued her torrid stretch, both pitching and batting, helping the Spring Lake varsity softball team overpower Montague Thursday, 14-4.
Keyser, a sophomore, was the winning pitcher as she struck out seven batters and scattered nine hits, improving to 8-1 on the season.
Offensively, Keyser banged out four hits. Tiffany Holmes, Jacque Garrison, Briana Brackett and Chelsea Boyer added two hits each.
"Her batting average has just skyrocketed the last few weeks," said Lakers' coach Bill Core, who noted that Keyser is now hitting .446. She also features a 1.78 ERA.
"She's really stared to hit her stride. Sometimes it's hard to remember she's just a sophomore," Core said.
The Lakers (16-4) head to the Traverse City West Invitational Saturday.
JUNIOR VARSITY: Micanna Pelkey belted a two-run homer and also pitched well, helping the Lakers beat Montague Thursday. Sam Weerstra added two singles while Abby Keizer also pitched a few innings for the Lakers (11-5).
