Pearl Welscott

Pearl Welscott, age 88, of Grand Haven (formerly of Spring Lake) passed away Friday, May 2, 2008, at her home.

She was born March 19, 1920, to Edward and Nelle (Vanderlaan) Hesse in Muskegon; and she married Harold R. Welscott on June 24, 1941, in Muskegon. Harold preceded her in death on January 7, 2002.

Pearl spent most of her adult life in Spring Lake, and had been employed as a bookkeeper for Challenge Porcelain and Automatic Spring. Mrs. Welscott was a lifelong member of The Reformed Church of America, where she had served as Sunday School teacher, Bible Study leader and president of the Women's Guild. She was a former member of the auxiliary board at Christian Haven Home and a Girl Scout leader. Pearl enjoyed camping, crafts and playing cards.

Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Ann Welscott (Karen Markwardt Blakewell) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; two sons, the Rev. Richard A. (Mary) Welscott of Byron Center, MI, and Roger L. (Mary Jo) Welscott of Spring Lake; nine grandchildren: Mark (Amy Jo) Welscott, Gina (Todd) Brian, Todd Welscott, Wendy (Steve) Sabatino, Doug (Anna) Welscott, Randy (Anita) Jurgens, Lonnie Jurgens, Lori (Luis) Zapata, Carol (Steve) Hugo; 23 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Pearl was preceded in death by two sisters, Geneva Brouwer and Lucille VanderWeg; three brothers: Kenneth, Bernard and Egbert Hesse; and four great-grandchildren.

The service for Pearl Welscott will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at Christ Community Church in Spring Lake with the Rev. Robert Kleinheksel, the Rev. Peter Theune and the Rev. Richard Welscott officiating. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Spring Lake Cemetery.
