County planning commissioner forced to resign

Mon, May 12, 2008    to del.icio.us

The Ottawa County Planning Commission education representative was forced to resign at the commission's meeting Thursday evening.

Doug Kamphuis of Holland, who took over the post in January, must leave the position because he will no longer be an active school board member as of June 30. He has been on the Holland Public Schools Board of Education for four years, but decided not to run for re-election this year because of difficulties with the school board during his tenure.

Kamphuis said he would have liked to continue on the county commission, if it were permissible, but the state requires the education member be an active member of a school board or school administration.
