Police officers save injured swan

Tue, Dec 15, 2009    to del.icio.us

SPRING LAKE — While they didn't pull someone from a burning building or rescue a person from a crashed car, Spring Lake/Ferrysburg Police officers still helped save a life Monday night.

Officer Greg Walski was on routine patrol at around 9:20 p.m. when he noticed an injured swan in the grass on the northest corner of East Exchange and Buchanan streets. Walski positioned his vehicle in the road to protect the swan, which appeared to have a broken foot, until a representative from Wild Life Rehab in Grand Rapids could arrive and capture it.

In the meantime, a small crowd had gathered to watch the bird.
