DETROIT (AP) Five people were charged Thursday in connection with two related Detroit-based child prostitution rings, federal authorities said.
Robert C. Daniels, 28, of Detroit and Dennis Paige of Novi are accused of leading the rings. They were charged in U.S. District Court with sex trafficking of minors, manufacturing child pornography and other offenses.
Stephanie Head, 22, of Detroit is accused of soliciting and training minors to engage in prostitution and other charges. Novi residents Sarah Dutton and Hortense Canty are accused of serving similar roles for Paige.
The most serious charges carry up to life in prison.
Officials say the defendants had posted more than 2,800 ads on several Web sites, including Craigslist and MySpace, since January 2006. Solicitations were posted for Detroit, Houston, Chicago, Milwaukee, Cleveland, Washington, D.C., College Park, Md., and New York City.
Messages seeking comment were left Thursday with two attorneys believed to be representing Daniels and Dutton. U.S. Attorney's office spokeswoman Gina Balaya said attorneys for the other three have not been assigned.
