SPRING LAKE — Michigan Department of Transportation officials will host a public meeting at 9:30 a.m. Thursday to discuss upcoming M-104 road repairs.

It will take place in the Spring Lake Township Hall board room, 106 S. Buchanan St.

MDOT Project Manager Greg Zack said Monday he anticipates the M-104 repair work will begin Monday.

M-104 is the main east-west state highway connecting Interstate 96 at Nunica to U.S. 31 at Ferrysburg.

Repair plans for M-104 call for crack sealing from Buchanan Street east to Lake Avenue in Spring Lake Village, where it is called Savidge Street, and resurfacing from Lake Avenue to 144th Avenue in Spring Lake Township.

The intersection at 144th Avenue is scheduled for widening to accommodate left- and right-turn lanes.

The majority of work will be done during night hours, with traffic restricted to one lane with flag control, according to an MDOT press release.

The M-104 widening at 144th Avenue will require one lane in each direction using a traffic shift. Motorists traveling on 144th Avenue in either direction will be asked to detour using 148th Avenue, State Road and Leonard Street.

Repairs and revisions are scheduled to be completed by the end of June, according to Zack.

Spring Lake Township Supervisor John Nash said many commercial business owners have expressed concern about the state highway repairs and traffic flow.
