Elaine J. Oehrli

Elaine Joyce Oehrli, age 70, of Grand Haven passed away Thursday, June 25, 2009, at home.

She was born on February 18, 1939, to Gilbert and Helen (Brandel) Smith. She graduated from Shelby High School and went on to attend Western Michigan University and Muskegon Community College. She married Richard Oehrli on January 28, 1961, in Shelby.

Elaine taught elementary school at Ravenna, Spring Lake and Laketon Schools, and was an active member of Spring Lake Wesleyan Church. She enjoyed cooking, boating and spending time with her family. She also had a great love for animals.

Elaine is survived by her loving husband, Richard; treasured by her daughters: Barb Oehrli (Tom Smith) of Portage, Kris (Eric) Ray of Pinckney, Sandi (Robert) Stephans of Grand Haven and Kari Oehrli of Grand Haven; grandchildren: Joshua, Daniel, Sarah, Rebekah, Deborah, Hannah, James and Patty; sister, Jan Schiller of Muskegon; brothers, Douglas Smith of Muskegon and Gordon (Nancy) Smith of Otsego; sister of the heart, Mary Lou (Charlie) Wright of Spring Lake; and daughter of the heart, Rachel Boyink of Grand Haven.

The funeral service for Elaine will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at Spring Lake Wesleyan Church with the Rev. David Horne officiating. Family will greet friends and relatives from 7-9 p.m. Monday, June 29, at Klaassen Family Funeral Home. Interment will be at Grand Haven Township Lakeshore Cemetery.
