The local organization that's focused on providing instruments to young musicians will host its second annual music festival on Grand Haven's Harbor Island July 10-11.
The Harbor Island Music Festival will benefit the Spread the Music Foundation Inc. Organizers say more than $35,000 in prizes will be given away during the two-day event.
Taking the festival stage will be the Vincent Hayes Project, Quarter Below, Soul'd Out, Igby Iris, Hot Pockets and Groove Solution.
Admission is $10 each night. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. and the music will end at 11 each night.
Festival-goers must be at least 21 years old.
Prizes given away during the festival will include an acoustic guitar donated by Ted Nugent, $5,000 in cash, a mo-ped from Grand Haven Scooter/Rycenga Building Center, a computer laptop from ICS Data, Tri-Cities Family YMCA 2010 membership and a Grand Haven Golf Club 2010 membership.
Proceeds will benefit the foundation that raises money for kids age 18 or younger to experience music without financial restrictions.
"Joining the community through music, Spread the Music Foundation provides musical supplies and instruments for children to have a positive, successful musical experience," said foundation founder Dave Palmer.
Three other events will be held on Harbor Island earlier on Saturday, July 11, also to benefit the foundation: a 15-kilometer Mo-ped Jam, a motorcycle poker run hosted by Eagle Riders of Grand Haven and a Spread the Music Foundation Eight-Hour Adventure Race hosted by Endurance Sports.
