Western Michigan Christian took a 2-0 lead at cross-town rival Muskegon Catholic Central Tuesday, but had to battle in the last two minutes to preserve a 2-1 win.
Laura Karsten put the Warriors on the board 12 minutes before halftime when she scored unassisted. WMC increased its lead 16 minutes into the second half when Karsten assisted Hannah Meyers on a goal.
The Crusaders scored with two minutes left in the game and Warrior goalie Sam Kammeraad had to make a great save on a high shot as time ran out.
WMC had 16 shots on goal compared with eight for the Crusaders.
The Warriors are now 7-1-1 in the River Valley Conference and 7-4-3 overall. They travel to North Pointe Christian Thursday to take on the Mustangs who are undefeated in league play. Varsity action begins at 4:30 followed by the junior varsity.
JUNIOR VARSITY: The Warriors got goals from Ambriel Alger, Sydne Stuck and Amber Willea en route to a 3-1 win.
