Volunteers needed to remove invasive plants

Thu, Jul 2, 2009    to del.icio.us

GRAND HAVEN TOWNSHIP — The Ottawa County Parks Department is seeking individuals willing to help remove spotted knapweed, an invasive plant species, at the Rosy Mound Natural Area.

Invasive plant species establish a monoculture and eliminate the diversity needed for a healthy environment, parks officials say.

There are three dates for the removal: Thursday, July 9, from 6:30-8:30 p.m.; Saturday, July 11, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and Monday, July 13, from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Volunteers should meet in the Rosy Mound parking lot, 13925 Lakeshore Ave., approximately 1.5 miles south of Robbins Road. Volunteers should bring gloves, and park staff will provide drinking water and snacks.

For more information, call the county parks department at 738-4810.
