Boating safety open house held at CG Station Grand Haven

Members of the U.S. Coast Guard, Coast Guard Auxiliary, DNR, Ottawa County Sheriff's Department Marine Patrol and Grand Haven Department of Public Safety participated in a boating safety open house Friday at Coast Guard Station Grand Haven. The first of what they hope to become an annual event included tours of the Coast Guard boats and the Coast Guard station.

Woman hurt in I-96 rollover

A Muskegon woman, Charlene Stewart, was airlifted to a Grand Rapids hospital after she rolled her car several times in an area approaching a construction zone on I-96 west of Nunica.

A bear in Muskegon

State wildlife biologists decided a bear who swam across Muskegon Lake to the City of Muskegon should be allowed to calm down and find his way back north on his own. The bear went into the lake near the Bear Lake Channel on the north side and came out of the water near the old oil tank farm on the south side.

Celebration of life

The 2013 Grand Haven-area Relay for Life kicked off at 3 p.m. Friday. It continues through 3 p.m. Saturday at White Pines Middle School to benefit the American Cancer Society, and celebrate cancer survivors and remember loved ones who it took from us. Tribune photos by Ben Perfect.
