The Parrent family (Craig, Danielle, Morgan, Ryan and Jaxon) decided at the last minute to try to one-up their snow monster creation from last year's Winterfest Cardboard Sled Race, but the wind would not cooperate.
More than 100 sleds took to the ski hill at Mulligan's Hollow Saturday for the 2014 Winterfest Cardboard Sled Race. Organizers said they were thrilled with the turnout despite the blustery weather and a fresh snowfall that had residents digging like mad to get out to their destinations.
Saturday's chilly temperatures didn't stop several children from making snow angels on Saturday. As the snow fell, children made snow angels and decorated them with food coloring and bird seed as part of the Winterfest Snow Angel Contest.
A pickup truck drifted over the center line, glanced off the back of a box truck and then struck an SUV head-on just before 7:25 a.m. Tuesday. Two men suffered multiple injuries and were taken by ambulance to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.
Area residents gathered for a program on Eagles on the Grand River Saturday afternoon at Connor Bayou County Park. Despite heavy ice coverage on the river, one eagle sat in a tree across from the park, and then away as the group made its way down to the river.
