Members of the Fruitport Historical Society organized a re-dedication of a monument honoring Walter R.B. Lewis, a Civil War veteran. Fruitport School students planted a tree and set a stone with a plaque in his honor in 1939. The stone was moved to the Fruitport Veterans Memorial Park prior to the ceremony. Lewis' great grandson, Bill Frisbee, and several classmates from the 1939 ceremony, attended Sunday's event.
