A motorcyclist was killed Tuesday when a pickup truck turned into his path in Muskegon County's Fruitport Township, police said. The accident happened around 6:30 p.m. on East Broadway Avenue, near South Quarterline Road. Fruitport Township Public Safety Director Ken Doctor said the motorcycle was westbound on Broadway when an eastbound pickup made a left turn in front of the bike. The motorcycle collided with the truck, killing the rider, who was in his 40s. Investigators said they are still piecing together what led up to the collision.

Area residents are again being warned about the dangers of swimming off Lake Michigan piers after two people were rescued off Holland's north pier on Sunday. A deputy in an Ottawa County Sheriff's Department marine patrol boat was summoned by people on the pier about 6:30 p.m. when a 13-year-old boy jumped off the pier and got in trouble with the current, OCSD Sgt. Keith Koeman said. A 20-year-old acquaintance of the boy jumped in to help, but was not a strong swimmer, and the current started to carry him away from the pier, Koeman said.

A dog has escaped unscathed from a small plane crash in northern Michigan that killed an Indiana couple and critically injured a 16-year-old boy. The Petoskey News-Review reported the male labradoodle is named Brady and belongs to Austin Hatch, who was being treated Monday at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. Friday's crash claimed the lives of 46-year-old pilot Stephen Hatch of Fort Wayne, Ind., and his 44-year-old wife Kimberly, Austin Hatch's stepmother.

A Spring Lake-area woman was arrested and the passenger in her car transported to North Ottawa Community Hospital following a one-car accident early Saturday evening on Hickory Street north of Fruitport Road. The driver of the car - Kirstyn Sabrofky, 21 - was given a breathalyzer test, then arrested on an alcohol related-charge, said Sgt. Keith Garvelink of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department. She suffered minor injuries that didn't require treatment.

Authorities in Muskegon have found the body of a 16-year-old boy who was missing in the Muskegon River's North Channel about three hours after he jumped off a railway trestle. The body of Richard Grimmett was found Sunday evening. Authorities said friends of the Reeths-Puffer High School student noticed he was struggling and two jumped into the water in a failed rescue attempt. The group of teens had been jumping into the river from the trestle.

A Grand Rapids teenager was reported in distress after the kayak he was riding in overturned on Lake Michigan in Port Sheldon early Friday evening. Three Grand Rapids teenagers - ages 15, 16 and 18 - were riding in a kayak, which overturned in waves shortly after 5 p.m., Ottawa County Sheriff's Sgt. Keith Garvelink said. Two of the teens were able to get back into the kayak, but the third did not. A witness on shore noticed the teen was in distress and called 911. Upon arrival, all three teens had made it to a sand bar and were okay.

The Muskegon Police Department arrested Ricky Meeks, 29, who was wanted on felony warrants for firearms violations. Meeks was also wanted for questioning reference a shooting that occurred in the 400 block of Isabella Street in the City of Muskegon on May 27. The victim of that shooting was Jermaine Buchanan, 29, from Muskegon who was shot once in the abdomen but has since recovered.

Two people were taken by ambulance to North Ottawa Community Hospital following an accident at about 10:30 this morning on Pine Street near the Dockside Mobil gas station. Danielle Berkobien, 17, of Spring Lake, said she was heading to work to pick up her check when the 1994 Land Rover slid on the wet pavement as she drove around the curve on the M-104 bridge into Ferrysburg.

Ottawa County Marine law enforcement officers will participate in Operation Dry Water and will be out on the water on Saturday looking for boaters whose blood alcohol content exceeds the state level. Operation Dry Water includes increased marine patrols, as well as boater education. Impaired boaters can expect penalties such as, fines, jail and loss of boating privileges.
