A 38-year-old Muskegon woman is scheduled to be sentenced July 25 for embezzling more than $70,000 from her former employer, Gage Motor Mall of Grand Haven. Amy Ruth Barnes-Trusty, 1260 Cardinal Circle Drive, Muskegon, entered a guilty plea to charges of embezzlement over $50,000, but less than $100,000, and forgery, during a hearing Monday afternoon in 20th Circuit Court. In exchange, Prosecuting Attorney Ron Frantz said his office would not press any additional charges.

A 20-year-old Coopersville man was arrested without incident early this morning, just a few days after he kicked out a police car window to escape. Ottawa County Sheriff's deputies picked up Jordan Michael Mulder about 3 a.m. today near a Mechanic Street home, said Lt. Mark Bennett of the sheriff's department. "During the investigation, deputies continued to check areas Mulder was known to have frequented,' Bennett said. "Deputies were checking the Mechanic Street area when they saw several individuals outside a residence.'

A crack in a pipe near the meters at the J.B. Sims Power Plant on Harbor Island caused momentary concern Monday night, but the leak was isolated without incident, according to plant director Jeff Chandler. Grand Haven Department of Public Safety responded to the power plant after a gas leak was discovered in a 6-inch main at about 9:45 p.m., Chandler said. The gas company responded and the gas was shut off within a half hour.

Police are looking for a 20-year-old Coopersville man who broke out of a police car Sunday while being transported to the Ottawa County Jail, said Lt. Mark Bennett of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department. Jordan Michael Mulder was being transported to the jail at the corner of 120th Avenue and Fillmore Street early Sunday morning when he kicked out a window, was able to get out of the police car and fled, Bennett said. Sheriff's deputies gave chase, but were unable to locate him, Bennett said.

An Allendale man was hospitalized in critical condition after turning his bicycle into the path of a car on M-45 near 96th Avenue this morning. Harold Yonker, 76, was taken by ambulance to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids following the 8:45 a.m. accident, according to Sgt. Steve Austin of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department. Two members of a Holland family were injured late Sunday when their vehicle was hit by a sport utility vehicle on Interstate 196 near Zeeland. After the collision, the family's van rolled over several times at the 56-mile marker, according to Sgt. Brian Buter of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department. Mark Raines, 41, and his wife Abigail, 39, were taken to Holland Hospital after the 11:51 p.m. incident. Mark was treated and released, and Abigail remains hospitalized in fair condition.

It can sometimes be a blessing to get caught by Michigan conservation officers. A kayaker on the Manistee River in the northwestern Michigan recently was stopped by officers who were checking canoes and kayaks for safety equipment. The Department of Natural Resources said the kayaker was adamant that he didn't need a life jacket or any other flotation device.

A U.S. Coast Guard crew saved three people from drowning in Lake Michigan after their boat capsized near Saugatuck on Saturday night. The capsized boat was about 3.5 miles northwest of the Saugatuck pier head. A boat crew from Coast Guard Station Holland found the three people clinging to the hull of their 24-foot recreational boat. Two of the three were wearing lifejackets. The three people were transported to awaiting emergency medical technicians on shore. The Coast Guard said the boaters might have mild hypothermia. No other injuries were reported.

A 19-year-old Muskegon man is in custody after Spring Lake/Ferrysburg police found a gun in his car while responding to an underage drinking complaint early Friday morning, police said. While on patrol about 1:30 a.m., a Spring Lake/Ferrysburg police officer noticed a car with five people inside parked near the basketball courts at Coast Guard Park, according to police. When the officer approached the car, he noticed an open bottle of alcohol near the car tires.

A Fruitport man accused of killing a swan with his personal watercraft said it was an accident, but dozens of witnesses disagree. "Everybody saw it wasn't an accident,' said Jennifer Ransom, who witnessed the incident from Pomona Park in Fruitport. "It was completely intentional.' "According to numerous witnesses, this incident did not have to happen,' Muskegon County Prosecutor Tony Tague said. Timothy Graves ll, 23, has been charged with unlawfully taking a protected animal.
