Police arrested a man and a teenage male Tuesday at a Holland apartment complex. Shortly before 8 a.m. Tuesday, a resident in the MeadowLane Townhouse complex told police he saw two individuals carrying items out of a neighbor's residence. The resident said he yelled at the suspects, who then took off running. A maintenance man in the complex said the suspects, who were wearing masks, ran through the complex. The maintenance man gave chase, police said, but the suspects attempted to elude him.

Police said a 36-year-old New Jersey man who was found dead in a mid-Michigan jail cell over the weekend had been subdued by officers using a stun gun during his arrest. Michigan State Police told the Morning Sun a stun gun was used Saturday on Bradford Gibson of East Orange by officers trying to get him to leave a bar in Mount Pleasant. An autopsy was conducted and investigators were awaiting a report about cause of death.

Authorities removed about 60 young people from a Portage school district school bus as they searched for weapons this morning. Police reported that nothing was found during the search. Sgt. James Myers said Portage police were told a student on the bus yelled at a parent whose daughter had just boarded the bus suggesting someone might "return with real guns.' On Wednesday, teens are suspected of shooting pellet guns at area homes. The woman reported the comment to the bus driver, who reported it to the bus garage. Police were called.

An unknown amount of cash taken during a Kent County bank robbery on Wednesday was tossed from a rental truck being pursued by police. Some of the money was recovered Wednesday by officers and passers-by, but some people are believed to have kept part of the cash, a witness said.

Prosecutors in Grand Rapids can pursue drug charges against a man who is permitted to grow medical marijuana but was caught with too many plants. The Michigan Appeals Court said the 88 plants seized by police a year ago were too many for Ryan Bylsma. The court today agreed with a Kent County judge who has refused to dismiss the case. Bylsma is a registered caregiver for two people, which means he can grow 24 plants. But the apartment he controlled in Grand Rapids had dozens more.

Authorities on Tuesday identified two Macomb County men killed in a private helicopter crash in Michigan's northern Lower Peninsula. Dan Logghe, 46, of Richmond was piloting the helicopter when it went down Friday in Caledonia Township, about 85 miles north of Bay City, said state police in Alpena. His passenger was Mark May, 34, of Sterling Heights. A hunter found the wreckage Monday morning on his property in a remote part of Alcona County. Relatives told police that Logghe was headed to a hunting cabin near Alpena, about 15 miles from the crash site.

Emergency crews worked for more than an hour to get through heavy brush to rescue an injured hiker Monday evening, said Crockery Township Fire Chief Gary Dreyer. Firefighters were called to the Crockery Creek Natural Area about 6:15 p.m. after a hiker fell and hit his head on a log, Dreyer said. The Grand Haven man, in his 40s, was hiking with a friend in the Ottawa County park at the end of Wren Street off Leonard Road, Dreyer said.

A male employee suffered a hand injury when his fingers were caught in a milling machine Monday afternoon at Baker Engineering, 17165 Power Drive, according to Crockery Township Fire Chief Gary Dreyer. Emergency personnel were called to the business about mid-afternoon to help free the man from the trap door of the machine, Dreyer said. Firefighters worked with employees to work out a way to manually open the machine that was still in an automatic mode, trying to pull itself shut, Dreyer said.

A Mecosta County woman has pleaded guilty to a federal child exploitation charge for taking pictures of a naked child and sending them to another man. Andrea Marie Mast, 32, of Evart made the plea Monday, indicating that she will cooperate with authorities and testify against Timothy Sims, the man who received the pictures. Sims is going on trial Oct. 25 on charges of producing, receiving and processing sexually explicit images of children. Mast faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison and could be sentenced to up to 30 years in prison.

Police said a 22-year-old man surrendered soon after shooting a 29-year-old man to death in the hallway of a Kalamazoo apartment building on Saturday night. The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety said the killing happened about 10:40 p.m. at the Fox Ridge Apartment Complex. They said officers found the victim lying in a second-floor hallway. He lived in the apartments. So far, police haven't released the names of the victim or the suspect, who's also a Kalamazoo resident. He's in the Kalamazoo County Jail on an open murder charge.

Saginaw police said an 89-year-old man struck and killed a 91-year-old woman as he was parking in the lot of the church where both were longtime members. Police said the accident happened as both were arriving for the start of a 9 a.m. Sunday service at St. John Lutheran Church. Officials said both were members of the church for many years, the woman for about seven decades.. Police told The Saginaw News they aren't releasing the names of the two, and said an investigation will determine whether any charges will come out of the case.

A Wyoming teen was arrested in a stolen car after a chase that ended up in an accident early Sunday morning, said Sgt. Brian Buter of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department. Brent Ireland, 17, suffered minor injuries in the accident and was treated and released, Buter said. Ireland was then arrested and arraigned on charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle, third-degree fleeing, and eluding and operating while intoxicated, Buter said.

A 14-year-old girl died Sunday morning when the car she was riding in was struck by a car trying to swerve out of the way of another accident. The Allegan County Sheriff's Department said the crash happened on 30th Street, south of 122nd Avenue, in Allegan Township.

Authorities said Friday that they've thwarted a potential kidnapping or murder-for-hire plot by an inmate who was targeting a Michigan state lawmaker. Few details have been released about the threat. Authorities said the case remains under investigation and no charges have been filed. They say the plot was being developed by a prisoner in a correctional facility who has since been isolated. Democratic state Rep. Barb Byrum of Ingham County's Onondaga issued a statement thanking the Michigan State Police for uncovering the plot.

Authorities said a small plane clipped a FedEx semitrailer and crashed along U.S. 131 near a small airport in Allegan County this morning, killing the pilot. The crash happened near the Plainwell Municipal Airport, about 35 miles south of Grand Rapids. State police said 73-year-old William Frank Beswick of Holland died in the crash. Paul Brindley, who runs the airfield, told the Kalamazoo Gazette a wing of the plane clipped the trailer of a northbound semi as the plane was landing. Brindley said the pilot, the only one on board, was flying from the Holland area.

A 60-year-old man faces felonious assault charges after threatening to shoot two Ottawa County deputies on Thursday. Police were called to the 4300 block of Heritage Drive in Georgetown Township shortly before 7:30 p.m. on a complaint that a resident was assaulted over a parked vehicle. When the two deputies approached the suspect's residence, the man pulled a gun on the deputies and threatened to shoot them.
