Saginaw police said an 89-year-old man struck and killed a 91-year-old woman as he was parking in the lot of the church where both were longtime members. Police said the accident happened as both were arriving for the start of a 9 a.m. Sunday service at St. John Lutheran Church. Officials said both were members of the church for many years, the woman for about seven decades.. Police told The Saginaw News they aren't releasing the names of the two, and said an investigation will determine whether any charges will come out of the case.

A Wyoming teen was arrested in a stolen car after a chase that ended up in an accident early Sunday morning, said Sgt. Brian Buter of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department. Brent Ireland, 17, suffered minor injuries in the accident and was treated and released, Buter said. Ireland was then arrested and arraigned on charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle, third-degree fleeing, and eluding and operating while intoxicated, Buter said.

A 14-year-old girl died Sunday morning when the car she was riding in was struck by a car trying to swerve out of the way of another accident. The Allegan County Sheriff's Department said the crash happened on 30th Street, south of 122nd Avenue, in Allegan Township.

Authorities said Friday that they've thwarted a potential kidnapping or murder-for-hire plot by an inmate who was targeting a Michigan state lawmaker. Few details have been released about the threat. Authorities said the case remains under investigation and no charges have been filed. They say the plot was being developed by a prisoner in a correctional facility who has since been isolated. Democratic state Rep. Barb Byrum of Ingham County's Onondaga issued a statement thanking the Michigan State Police for uncovering the plot.

Authorities said a small plane clipped a FedEx semitrailer and crashed along U.S. 131 near a small airport in Allegan County this morning, killing the pilot. The crash happened near the Plainwell Municipal Airport, about 35 miles south of Grand Rapids. State police said 73-year-old William Frank Beswick of Holland died in the crash. Paul Brindley, who runs the airfield, told the Kalamazoo Gazette a wing of the plane clipped the trailer of a northbound semi as the plane was landing. Brindley said the pilot, the only one on board, was flying from the Holland area.

A 60-year-old man faces felonious assault charges after threatening to shoot two Ottawa County deputies on Thursday. Police were called to the 4300 block of Heritage Drive in Georgetown Township shortly before 7:30 p.m. on a complaint that a resident was assaulted over a parked vehicle. When the two deputies approached the suspect's residence, the man pulled a gun on the deputies and threatened to shoot them.

Authorities said a man charged in a rape investigation in Michigan has been captured in western New York. The Ontario County Sheriff's Department said deputies were tipped off that 42-year-old Timothy Seeman of Manton, Mich., was working at construction project and staying at a motel in Hopewell, 30 miles southeast of Rochester. Officials said Seeman attempted to flee on foot when he was located around 6:30 p.m. Thursday, but was quickly apprehended by deputies. He was charged with being a fugitive from justice and sent to Ontario County Jail without bail.

One man is dead after a one-vehicle crash early this morning off Holton-Whitehall Road in Muskegon County's Blue Lake Township. The accident happened shortly after midnight between Hyde Park and Automobile Roads. State police said the driver of a white Chevy Blazer went off the road, near an area residents call "Dead Man's Curve,' went down a 20-foot embankment and hit several trees. First-responders said the sport utility vehicle was smoking when they arrived, then caught fire with the man still inside.

A Muskegon man is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 7 in connection with the break-in of a Spring Lake Township home, where he also allegedly assaulted the female occupant. William Henry Nelson, 22, pleaded no contest to three of the four charges when arraigned Monday in Ottawa County Circuit Court. He will be sentenced on charges of first-degree home invasion, assault with intent to commit sexual penetration and larceny in a building. Nelson entered a not-guilty plea on an aggravated stalking charge.

A Jenison man was seriously injured when his pickup truck was broadsided Wednesday evening in Jamestown Township, said Sgt. Bob Ruster of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department. Lester Ball, 68, was driving his 1998 Chevrolet pickup truck south on Eighth Avenue when his truck was hit by a 2008 Honda Odyssey van, Ruster said. The van, driven by Jennifer Zuverink, 30, of Hudsonville, was westbound on Perry Street at about 7:20 p.m. and traveled through the stop sign at Eighth Avenue, Ruster said.

Dozens of firefighters from four townships spent the night battling a warehouse fire in Byron Center. The fire broke out at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday at Air Technologies, located in the 100 block of 84th Street S.W. The business makes air and gas compressors. Dispatchers said crews at the scene reported flames coming through the roof of the building. Early this morning, Kent County deputies closed off 84th Street near South Division Avenue to give firefighters space to deploy around the fire. The street was re-opened around 6 a.m.

The death of a Coopersville man found in the Grand River behind his boat in August has been ruled accidental, Detective Corey Allard of the Spring Lake/Ferrysburg Police Department said today. Michael Kirby, 51, was reported missing the afternoon of Aug. 20 by a friend, James Cunningham. Cunningham was supposed to meet Kirby that morning to work on his boat in the Village Cove Marina, 900 W. Savidge St. in Spring Lake, Allard said.

The Ottawa County Sheriff's Department has connected some juveniles with a series of thefts from motor vehicles in Holland and Park townships, said Sgt. Brent Converse of the Holland/Park Township Community Policing Unit. Some stolen merchandise has been returned to its owners, Converse said. Police also have some items - such as glasses, sunglasses, jewelry and shoes - that were not reported stolen. Anyone who may be missing these items is asked to contact the Sheriff's Department and file a report.

Police said they're trying to figure out what caused an explosion that turned a vehicle along a Michigan street into a blackened shell and seriously injured a man and two children inside. Monroe Police Lt. Charles Abel said the blast Tuesday evening is "being listed as a car fire with an explosion,' and he doesn't know whether it was the result of a vehicle malfunction or something else. Police in the city near the Ohio state line had said this moring it was "being investigated as the detonation of a car bomb.'

One person suffered minor injuries in a three-vehicle accident late Monday morning on northbound U.S. 31, just south of the drawbridge, said Lt. Renee Freeman of the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety. The female passenger of one of the cars was taken by ambulance to North Ottawa Community Hospital. No information was available on her condition.

A toddler playing with a lighter started a house fire late Monday afternoon on Slayton Street, according to Lt. Renee Freeman of the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety. Emergency crews responded to 1539 Slayton St. at 3:45 p.m. when a woman called 911 and said a bed was on fire. Andrea Young tried to extinguish the blaze, but quickly called 911 and evacuated the house - said her husband, Matt Young. Andrea and the child were the only ones home at the time. They were not hurt, authorities said.

A Lansing-area man suffered a leg injury in a crash of an antique airplane shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday at the Hatfield Airport, 18155 120th Ave. Dan Schiffer, 62, seemed otherwise OK, said his cousin, Al Schiffer, another one of the pilots. Dan was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. His condition was unknown at this time. Airfield owner Bill Hatfield said they had about 14 planes onsite Saturday for a gathering called a "Quiet Birdmen Fly-in."
