What do you think of the proposal to raise the speed limit on certain Michigan highways?

By the choice of answers in this poll my impression is that the person who created it is not in favor of speed limit increases. Implying that those who support it have a "need for speed" is not factually supported. The 85th percentile speed limit traffic study is not 85 percent of drivers who have a need for speed. It is about scientific traffic flow based on engineering studies for safer travel.

and what is the fastest you have had your car up to on the highway polarize? anyone else? the need for speed is there, deny it all you want (factually supported, lol). Although I would never do it again, I had my car up to 135 mph on US31 in my younger days...now everyone says I drive like an old man.

@bigdeal you are much more courageous than I was on speed. I think I may have gotten up to 90 mph in my old Mercedes Diesel back in the day and it handled very well but I am more or less about 68 mph now when traffic actually goes the proper 70 mph speed limit for the road. My position taken now depends on overall traffic and while traveling certain stretches in Grand Rapids, Detroit, Chicago and other cities. There is no question that if traffic is safely traveling 70 mph that everyone else should maintain the prevailing speed and there is much risk with even one car going 15 or more mph below the majority greatly increasing the crash risk.

I commute daily between SL and GR, 32 Miles each way. To bump it up to 80 would be nice. Traffic averages about 75 right now.

I keep thinking of the continual costs of needing to update these signs.

Let's just put it to 90 MPH and be done with it.

They're going 80 already, now it will be 90 and 100, go figure !!!
