Even with the several inches of snow that blanketed West Michigan over the past few days, the Grand Haven ski team won't be making its season debut today.

With Christmas break wrapping up today, area prep sports teams are poised to return to action this week.

1. Soccer teams from Grand Haven, Spring Lake and Western Michigan Christian each entered the 2011 season with high expectations, but few could have imagined the combined success the three teams would enjoy, especially in the state tournament as all three programs advanced to the state championship game.

Fruitport's bread and butter is creating scoring opportunities off its full- court pressure defense. Mona Shores had no trouble solving that on Thursday, and the Sailors didn't have many problems handling the Trojans' half-court defense, either. The host Sailors dominated the rebounding edge and held the Trojans to just seven made field goals in a 52-22 result in the finals of the Muskegon Sports Hall of Fame Girls Basketball Classic. In the consolation game of the event, Muskegon defeated Reeths-Puffer, 58-47.

Fruitport's varsity boys basketball team had a 16-11 lead on undefeated Comstock Park after the first quarter on Wednesday, but the Trojans couldn't keep the Panthers contained the rest of the way in the Trojans' 64-54 setback.

John Potter had made a Mid-American Conference record 126 consecutive point-after attempts heading into Tuesday's Little Caesars Pizza Bowl at Ford Field.

A pair of 3-pointers by Kaelyn Laufersky hit a pair of third-quarter 3-pointers, helping Fruitport's varsity girls basketball team hold off Reeths-Puffer, 37-26.

Spring Lake graduate Maria Kieft helped lead the Hope College women's swim and dive team to a fourth-place finish at the Wheaton College Invitational on Dec. 2-3.
