Fruitport's bread and butter is creating scoring opportunities off its full- court pressure defense. Mona Shores had no trouble solving that on Thursday, and the Sailors didn't have many problems handling the Trojans' half-court defense, either. The host Sailors dominated the rebounding edge and held the Trojans to just seven made field goals in a 52-22 result in the finals of the Muskegon Sports Hall of Fame Girls Basketball Classic. In the consolation game of the event, Muskegon defeated Reeths-Puffer, 58-47.

A total of 13 varsity competitive cheer teams invaded L.C. Walker in Arena on Tuesday for the Mona Shores Sailor Invitational - the opening competition for many teams in the area. The competition was split among three divisions, with Grand Haven battling against East Kentwood, Jenison and the host Sailors in Division 1, and Spring Lake and Fruitport squaring off against four other schools in Division 2.
