A year ago, the dual swim meet between Spring Lake and Grand Haven went down to the final relay, with the Lakers prevailing in thrilling fashion. The neighboring rivals didn't finish that close again on Thursday at the Spring Lake Aquatic Center, thanks to the Buccaneers' improved depth and overall talent.

BOYS JUNIOR VARSITY Spring Lake improved to 2-0 in the Lakes Eight Conference with a 51-39 win over Orchard View on Thursday. Charlie Warber led the Lakers with 14 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Mark Williamson added 11 points, and Jake Deering scored four and played a strong game defensively.

Bucs' hockey cherishes first-ever victory over Mona Shores

When the final horn sounded to signal the end of Wednesday's showdown between Grand Haven and Mona Shores, the victorious Buccaneers spilled out onto the ice and celebrated as if they'd just won the state championship. In fact, Wednesday's 2-1 win over Mona Shores was nothing more than a regular-season O-K Tier I contest, but don't tell that to the Bucs.
